This original house was indistinct and confusing for any visitors because it had two doors facing the street. One of the owners enjoyed building Craftsman inspired furniture, so we decided that a Craftsman front porch addition could clarify the entry issues and provide the owners with a pleasant outdoor area to sit and be a part of their neighborhood’s street life. The ceiling was stained douglas fir and the flooring was Lyptus. We worked hard to get the proportions right and the detailing such that the porch was low maintenance and attractive. This project was designed and built while part of Landis Architects Builders in Washington DC.
